Summertime Snapshots

Summer! Free from tiresome days spent studying, cooling down by eating delicious summer fruits (especially watermelon), warm nights laughing with friends whilst gazing at the stars and picnics at the park under a beautiful, bright, blue sky...But how could we forget the pristine Australian beaches! For many, summer in Australia means long days and nights spent relaxing on the sand and cooling down in the ocean with your friends or family. Recently, temperatures have risen over 40°C and this called for a spontaneous trip to our local beach for an afternoon spent frolicking along the sand.

As we decided not to swim, we chose outfits that were more suited for an afternoon watching the waves. What better occasion to wear some statement shorts teamed with a cream top? Theres something about pairing these coloured shorts with a cream top that makes this effortless, oh-so-simple, outfit POP. To finish off our summer attire, we decided to throw on some beachy bangles and of course our favourite pair of sunnies! We had a lovely afternoon and stayed to watch the sun disappear into the horizon.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Strolling along the sand.

Closet Confidential

Welcome to our wardrobes!

This posts gives you a little look into our style and the key pieces of our current closets! We got this idea after watching this youtube video posted by Fleur DeForce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v0uSqGcCL4.

REBECCA

Bag - Melbourne Boutique Stall, Shirt - TopShop, Crop Top - Dotti, Shoes - Converse
Oldest item
I must quickly confess that I love constantly cleaning and changing up my clothes. Unfortunately, this results in a lack of old pieces in my closet. However, this Union Jack body-cross bag has become a fairly old treasure of mine that I would never ever consider getting rid of. I purchased it a few years ago at a boutique stall whilst holidaying in Melbourne after winning a competition with my friends – to see One Direction perform live at the Logies. I think it adds a unique touch to most city chic outfits and makes me think of all the wonderful memories made on that trip.

Newest item
I had been eying this heart print shirt online from TopShop for a while before I finally decided recently to make the purchase. I’m super excited to wear it and I know it will make a fabulous new addition to my wardrobe. I love everything about the shirt from the deep navy colour, the contrasting bright white hearts and how it reminds me of the Burberry Prorsum AW13 Collection. The material is truly gorgeous and the quality feels amazing it is so soft and light.

Favourite item
I never realised how difficult it would be to choose a favourite item in my wardrobe. After great trouble I finally decided that this versatile black lace crop top is definitely one of my all-time favourites. Anyone who knows me knows I have a HUGE obsession with lace! So, I think that this item simply sums my wardrobe and style completely.

Most worn item
Easily my most worn item is converse shoes. Although, I love wearing heels and dressing up I feel you can never beat kicking back in converse sneakers. I especially love these black converse sandals as they are perfect for summer! I purchased them online last summer from Urban Outfitters and I have worn them everywhere, from shopping trips in the city to evening walks along the coast.

ELLIE

Shirt/Jacket - Vintage, Shoes - Forever New, Skirt - Forever New, Shorts - Myer Miss Shop
Oldest item
The oldest item in my wardrobe is definitely this denim shirt/jacket with dragon detailing. This item of clothing belonged to my aunty when she was younger. I am yet to wear it but I am excited to incorporate this unique, vintage piece when the weather starts to cool down.

Newest item
SHOES! A girl can never have too many shoes! These blush-coloured sandals with diamante embellishments are the newest addition to my wardrobe. I have had my eye on these adorable shoes for a while now and when they finally went on sale I couldn’t help but buy them! They add the perfect amount of bling to any summer-time outfit!

Favourite item
So difficult to decide but I would have to say this prom-style skirt with an elegant blue, floral pattern. This was an online purchase that I made whilst procrastinating from exam study (I was in desperate need of some retail therapy!). It is truly perfect for so many different occasions as it can either be dressed up or down. This rather spontaneous purchase is without a doubt one of my most favourite pieces in my closet!

Most worn item
Who says you can’t be fashionable and comfortable at the same time? These heart print shorts are super comfy yet so effortlessly stylish. They are perfect for any casual day out such as shopping or going out with friends. I love wearing these shorts and they are definitely a popular item in my wardrobe!

Forget-Me-Not: Glitter Jar Memories

Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed the festive season!

For us, 2013 marked a very significant year. We graduated high school and were beginning life as university students whilst also venturing into the rollercoaster of...adulthood! To capture these important moments we decided to write them down. Wanting to approach this idea in a more unconventional manner than say, a diary, we chose to place little notes and other momentos inside a jar (not to be opened until 31st December 2013!).

As avid followers of the YouTuber Bethany Mota (MacBarbie07), we were inspired to create a glittery jar similar to the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugCJVhrdCK0

Here is a step-by-step guide of how we made our glitter jars:

Step 1. Find a jar of any shape or size, we decided to go for a medium-sized, circular jar.
Step 2. Cut out a shape of your choice on clear book contact (we went with a heart shape, similar to Bethany!).
Step 3. Line the jar with some craft glue using a paint brush (this is a less expensive alternative to spray glue which Bethany used in her video).
Step 4. Quickly fill the jar with A LOT of glitter (yes, A LOT!), our colour of choice was gold. However, if you want to take a different approach you could always use coloured sand, sequins or anything else which will stick to the glue. Get creative!
Step 5. Leave to dry over night.
Step 6. Remove the clear contact heart. This can be quite tricky so be sure to remove it slowly and carefully.
Step 7. If you bought a jar with a handle, you can add ribbons, flowers, craft rhinestones and any other bits and bobs you can think of to add your own personal touch.

Once all these steps are complete, you can start filling your jar will all the wonderful memories that make up your year!

To mix things up a bit this year, we want to document our memories in a different way. We are thinking of decorating a little notebook which will be filled in a similar manner to the glitter jar. We would love to hear how you keep note of your most treasured memories that occur throughout a year. Leave us a comment below!
