It's in the detail...

It is no secret that we love all things girly when it comes to fashion – lace, floral and heels, just to name a few. However, to mix things up a bit for the summer, we decided to add a touch of masculine flare which we’ve recently observed is becoming quite popular (cue round of applause for both of us stepping partially outside of our style comfort zones). We feel, by adding some pretty detailing to traditionally masculine materials or garments it creates a summer outfit with an unconventional twist. Here’s what we came up with...

Lace Top - Dotti, Leather Skirt - Princess Polly, Necklace - Diva, Shoes - Rubi

Rebecca:
Leather, the first thing that comes into my mind when I think of leather (besides my favourite skater style skirt) is...the quintessential, iconic and largely masculine black leather bomber jacket from 1950’s rebel culture in America. Fast-forward and today leather (although still typically associated with masculinity) is everywhere – dresses, skirts and even shirts. I love teaming my black leather skirt with traditionally girly textures, like my cream lace crop top, for a contrasting approach. To finish off this mannish, yet somewhat “sweet” look, I decided to wear my cream flatform sandals and a simple floral necklace. Overall, I think that the minimal jewellery and rebelliousness of the leather create the perfect clash with the softness in the lace and sandals, for a go-to style fit for any occasion and season, especially those cooler summer evenings out with friends.

Lace Top - Jay Jays, Overalls - Dotti, Shoes - Staccato
Ellie:
The overall, an all-in-one garment typically worn to protect clothing from getting grubby! Doesn’t sound very girly, does it? Well, add a splash of floral, a hint of lace, a wedged heel and you might just have yourself an outfit with the perfect amount of “pretty”. To begin with, I was a little unsure how I would pull off the overall look as I often remain in my comfort zone with delicate dresses and skirts. As I shopped around for a top to wear underneath, I just couldn’t go past the girly favourite…lace! This outfit is fairly versatile and can be worn for many different occasions. I decided to pair it with my favourite wedged shoes (which are SO comfortable!) as I wanted to dress it up a little. I think this trend adds a sense of unpredictability to my wardrobe whilst still incorporating the girly fashion pieces which I love.

Let us know what you think and tell us your interpretation of this look.
